Skills For Life

Program Description

Pathfinders Skills for Life group program is a place where individuals with intellectual and developmental barriers can join their peers in a school-based format to learn essential life skills that will help guide them towards independence and self-actualization. The program offers individuals a learning environment that encourages independence, literacy, problem-solving, finances, health and nutrition and day-to-day living skills that can strength people’s self-esteem. We are an all- inclusive program for adults aged 19 and up.

Class Structure

The program is designed to be 2 ½ hours long, once a week in the classroom. We offer four choices a week Monday through Thursday from 10:00am to 12:30pm. Students are offered 1 hour of individual time once per week if they want extra support with their goals while they get comfortable with the group format. Individual time can be scheduled anytime outside of group class hours Monday through Friday from 1:30pm to 5:30pm. Field-trips are planned in advanced and are normally scheduled for the entire day.

Program

A person may learn about effective communication, conflict resolution, banking, and finances, preparing nutritional meals, practicing interviewing skills and creating meaningful relationships with each other and community partners. Once a month, we offer full-day field-trips to: Science World, Cultus Lake, Bowen Island, Sea to Sky Gondola, White rock beach, local parks, and recreational centres. We also provide a health and fitness routine by playing sports, such as, soccer, baseball, basketball, hockey, bowling, and nature walks.
